  • 1/2 Pound peanuts
  • 2 1/2 Ounces honey
  • 1 Teaspoon cayenne
  • 20 medjool dates, cut in half
  • 20 seedless grapes
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • Flour, for dredging
  • Breadcrumbs, for dredging
  • Oil, for frying
  • Maple syrup, for serving


Preheat the oven to broil on high.

In a small sauté pan, heat the peanuts, honey, and cayenne until caraemlized, cool, and then purée in a food processor. Cut the dates in ½ and remove the seeds. Stuff the purée into each halve and place back together. Wrap with a piece of the bacon and broil until the bacon is crisp.

Heat a pan with oil so that it fills ½ way up the sides. Rinse the grapes under water and dredge in the flour, then the egg, then the breadcrumbs. Fry in the oil until crispy, about 2 minutes. Place the grapes and bacon dates onto skewers and serve with maple syrup.

SIMPLE Maple Glazed Bacon Wrapped Dates

There is nothing visually appealing about these bacon wrapped dates and they certainly won’t win any beauty pageant awards. But what they lack visually they make up for in taste!

These soft, sweet Medjool dates get stuffed with a salty almond and then wrapped in smoky bacon and baked to crispy-soft perfection.

Feel free to add a little cheese to your date. Goat cheese seems to be the most popular choice or a smoky Gouda perhaps.

Dates can be found either in bulk in the produce section of your supermarket or packaged in the baking aisle. Look for PITTED dates, meaning the pits have been removed. If you cannot find pitted, don’t fret, simply cut the date in half without cutting all the way through and remove the pits.

Stuff an almond in the middle, wrap it in bacon and bake. While the bacon is crisping up in the oven, a glaze with butter, brown sugar and maple syrup is made and brushed over the dates for even more sticky finger licking goodness.

Maple and bacon were meant to be together, and this appetizer is no exception. My Maple-Glazed Bacon-Wrapped Dates had everyone drooling! A simple recipe, the smoky flavor of the bacon blends perfectly with the maple glaze, leaving everyone satisfied before the main meal.

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

4. Line a baking pan with ½-inch sides with parchment paper or foil. Arrange the wrapped dates on prepared pan in a single layer.

6. Bake in preheated oven 12 minutes. Turn dates so other side of bacon can cook. Bake another 8 minutes. If bacon is still not crisp, bake a few minutes longer.

Bacon-Wrapped Dates with Maple Glaze and Pistachios

This would be a great appetizer for a stay-at-home Valentine's Day dinner or even a larger dinner party. The saltiness of the bacon really helps to cut through the sweetness of the dates, and the pistachios give it the added crunch it needs. It's sweet, decadent, and perfect for the middle of winter.

Yield: 4 appetizer servings


16 sun-ripened dates
8 slices (1 lb.) bacon (I used thick cut, but thin will work too)
2 Tbsp. pure maple syrup
1/4 cup shelled pistachios, roughly chopped


Preheat the oven then set up an assembly line. Grab the bacon, dates and toothpicks, then pour the brown sugar onto a plate or in a bowl.

Wrap bacon around the dates, then place a toothpick to hold the bacon in place. Dip the bacon-wrapped date into the maple syrup first, then the brown sugar and directly onto a lined baking sheet. You'll repeat this process for all two dozen dates.

Bake the dates in the oven for approximately 12 minutes or until the bacon is done to your liking. Optionally, you can sprinkle a little extra brown sugar overtop before serving. That's it!

These brown sugar dates are the definition of salty and sweet--they're a real crowd-pleaser. So whether you're going to a party or just having a few friends over, I highly recommend whipping these up.

How Do I Store the Smoked Bacon?

The best way to store the bacon once it&rsquos smoked is to slice it up first and portion it out. Separate the slices into batches you intend to cook later. Separate each batch into small freezer bags and store them pretty much as long as you need to.

You can freeze them for up to 6 months although you&rsquoll really want to start consuming the bacon when you get to about three months of storage.

None of that probably matters because that bacon doesn&rsquot stand much of a chance of making it through the week.

Even if you do plan on eating all of the bacon pretty quickly, it&rsquos still a good idea to portion it out, just to make it easier on you when you take it out to cook.

It&rsquos not good to repeatedly thaw out frozen bacon, so it&rsquos important to only take out what you need. Of course, the best-tasting bacon is the bacon you cook immediately after you&rsquove smoked the flavor in.

Homemade Smoked Maple Bacon

Homemade smoked maple bacon is easy to prepare. Just remember that bacon is always cured with a sweet and savory mixture of sugar, salt, and pepper. You can use a smoker for the finishing touch. If you want to take your bacon from good to great, use real maple syrup instead of sugar.

Why make bacon at home? You get to decide what goes into it (meat from pastured organically-fed animals) and what does not go into it (nitrites, which are added to most commercial bacon).

Nitrites are sold to the home cook in blends called "curing salt" or "Prague powder." They preserve the bright pink color of the layers of meat in bacon and similar meats. They also help to eliminate bacteria. In very small amounts they are considered safe to consume, but they are a potential health hazard.

If you opt to use nitrates, remember that the finished bacon will not keep as long in the refrigerator as bacon made with curing salt. Freeze any that you plan to keep for longer than a week.
